Did you know donating Publicly Traded Securities is a smarter way to give?Farming Smarter can receive transfers of publicly traded securities/securities in-kind. This is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give. It allows you to support causes you care about, like Farming Smarter, while minimizing taxes and maximizing the value of your donation. What is it?Donating securities in-kind means gifting investments (like stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds) directly to Farming Smarter instead of selling them first and donating cash. Rather than triggering tax on the sale, the investment is transferred directly, and you receive a donation receipt for the full market value. Why this matters?When you sell an investment, any gain is typically subject to capital gains tax. By donating the investment in-kind, that capital gain is eliminated for most individuals. This allows you to avoid paying capital gains tax, receive a full charitable tax receipt, and increase the overall impact of your donation. How it worksYou transfer the shares directly from your investment account to Farming Smarter’s brokerage account. We receive the full value of the investment, and you receive a donation receipt for that same amount. Most importantly, any accrued capital gain on the investment is not taxed.
