The Farming Smarter Conference & Trade Show is the perfect place to hear updates about cutting-edge research and insight from the agriculture industry.
Hear from leading experts across policy and academia and share wisdom with a network of other innovative minds in southern Alberta. Anyone passionate about agriculture or interested to learn more about the industry and its community is invited to attend!
With the recent U.S. election, and it being an election year here at home, policy and its impact on innovation is the big theme of our event. This year’s sessions will also feature updates from on-going and recently completed crop agronomy projects at Farming Smarter like practices to upkeep soil conservation, new methods of hemp agronomy, cereal rolling, and a dive into our multiple potato agronomy studies, plus much more.

Our lineup for the 2025 Farming Smarter Conference & Trade Show showcases expert researchers and industry leaders from our region and beyond. Canada West Foundation’s Hon. Gary Mar & University of Saskatchewan’s Dr. Stuart Smyth are the keynote speakers for our event.
- Gary Mar shares his perspective and thoughts on Alberta’s position in the greater agricultural industry and the impact we can have,
- And Dr. Stuart Smyth takes the stage to showcase and celebrate the conservation achievements of prairie farmers in securing Canada’s system of agriculture and sustainability as the best in the world.
In addition to these great keynote speakers, FSC25 includes compelling topics such as:
- Kristin Simons from North Dakota State University is joining us to share results from a 40-year-long study to determine the combined effects of crop rotations, tillage systems, and fertilizer rates & sources have on crop production and soil,
- Lochlin Ermatinger joins us to present findings from his graduate program at Montana State University understanding how remotely sensed imagery can be used to estimate wheat stem sawfly infestations in wheat fields,
- Kochia management around the farmyard and in your field from Dr. Bill Hamman and Mark Oostlander,
- Dr. Peter James Facchini from the University of Calgary shares wisdom and observations from more than 30 years of researching opium poppy to emphasize the impact policy can have on innovation, and how too much policy can stifle otherwise beneficial opportunities
Between sessions, you have the opportunity to network with a community of innovative farmers and agronomists over coffee or a delicious catered lunch by Prime Catering.
